Macknair becomes a two-time Academic All-American ®

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University senior Chayce Macknair (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) was named Wednesday to the 2023 Division II Academic All-America ® Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Third Team, an award that recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance in sport and in the classroom.

It is the second consecutive Academic All-America ® classification for Macknair, who earned Second Team honors in 2021-22. It is the 88th overall Academic All-America ® honor in Raider history, dating back to the award’s inception in 1952.

Macknair graduated in May with his bachelor’s degree in history and social studies teaching certification having achieved a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. He battled injury throughout the entire 2022-23 campaign, but still managed to qualify and compete in the 5K at both the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor and Outdoor Championships. He is the 2023 PSAC Champion Scholar for Men’s Outdoor Track & Field.

His momentous Raider career has been brightest in cross country, as in 2021 he earned the PSAC Most Outstanding Runner moniker after becoming the first Raider in 41 years (and just the second overall) to win the PSAC individual cross country championship. In addition to All-Region honors (ninth place), Macknair was a 2021 NCAA Championships qualifier.

Overall, Macknair is a three-time PSAC Champion in track & field – winning the 2021 outdoor championship in the 10K, the 2022 indoor championship in the 3K and the 2022 indoor championship in the 5K. He is a five-time place-winner and a four-time All-PSAC performer, including a 2021 runner-up finish in the outdoor 5K.
