Extra inning thriller: Bald Eagle Baseball clinched berth in PIAA championship with walk-off win

DUBOIS – Coming through in the clutch.

The Bald Eagle Area baseball team showed the possessed the heart of a champion Monday as the came out victorious over Sharpsville in dramatic fashion in a 1-0 10th inning walk off victory.

With the win, the Eagles now will be back in action Friday as they punched their ticket to the PIAA State Championship game.

Bald Eagle pitchers Tyler Serb and Wyatt Coakley combined for a 4-hit shut out of Blue Devils at Showers field in DuBois. The two also worked together to collect 17 strike outs.

Offensively, Cam Watkins led things for the Eagles with two hits in the contest.

In the 10th, Serb ended the marathon session as he singled the winning hit to second, scoring Watkins.

The celebration begun as the Eagles etched their name in the Eagles sports lore with the victory.

Early on, the Eagles came up with some clutch play as the Blue Devils were threatening.

In the third, Caullin Summers led off the inning by the pitcher, Tyler Serb.

Summers moved up to third on a Bald Eagle miscue.

But he would be stranded as Serb struck out Carter Dejulia and Luke Distler. In between the two, Jack Liepheimer grounded out.

Offensively, the Eagles also sat on the brink of scoring in the bottom of the inning.

Gavin Eckley led off with a bunt single.

Watkins laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving Eckley to second.

Kahale Burns walked, putting runners on first and second.

Serb loaded the bases when he took on for the team as he was hit by a pitch.

But Sharpsville would keep the game scoreless, posting the next two outs.

Neither team would not get a runner last second until the bottom of the 10th when the Eagles would end the contest and March their way into the PIAA State Championship Friday.
