Foxpro and Blanchard do battle in the heat
Game 1: Foxpro Predators 8, Blanchard Bees 6
Game 2: Blanchard Bees 13, Foxpro Predators 1 (5 innings)
LEWISTOWN – Foxpro and Blanchard were not only battling each other, but the humidity as well as both teams took a W in their CCBL double header Sunday afternoon over at Mifflin County High School.
In game one, the Bees were buzzing in the top of the first inning scoring three runs in the frame. Dylan Broderick got it started with a double to left that scored the Corl brothers, Asher and Toner for a quick 2-0 lead. Later in the inning Trevor Hanna singled home Broderick to make it a 3-0 ballgame.
But the Predators responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. With one out and the bases loaded, Evan Pupo singled up the middle scoring Ethan Eichhorn and Isaiah Kearns. Hayden Snook then hit a SAC fly that brought home Jaxson Pupo to even the game at three apiece.
A few innings past before Foxpro took the lead in the bottom of the third inning with Eichhorn scoring on a wild pitch to make it a 4-3 lead.
But then in the top of the fifth inning, Blanchard tacked on two runs. Wyatt Koch hit a single that brought home Hanna to tie the game. Then Colby Sweitzer then knocked in SAC fly to center that scored Talon Falls to give the Bees a 5-4 lead.
However, Foxpro responded again in the bottom half of the same inning as Jaxson Pupo laced a double down the left field line that allowed Eichhorn to score all the way from first to even the game at five.
Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Predators continued to add in runs as Dan Brundage singled home Mark Shilling Jr. to make it a 6-5 lead.
But the Bees were not going away quietly as Asher Corl knocked in Kenny Everly with a single to tie the game at six all.
Foxpro was not going to allow that to effort them as the Captain of the team Evan Pupo stepped up and launched a game winning two run shot to close the game out 8-6.
Tristin Lockett got the start for the Predators and went four innings with six strikeouts and seven walks. Landon Black took over from there and pitched two and two-thirds innings with four walks. Kearns got the win on the mound and pitched a third of an inning.
For the Bees, Sweitzer nearly went the distance going six innings with four strikeouts and five walks. Hanna was given the loss.
Game two was a completely different story as Blanchard turned it up at the plate. Already up 1-0, Ethan McGill singled in Asher Corl. Toner Corl then drove in Koch with a single before Asher returned the fa vor and brought home McGill. A double from Broderick added on two more runs to make it a 6-0 game.
But then the big inning happened as the Bees swarmed for six runs in the first two innings combined. However Blanchard dropped six runs in the top of the third alone to make it a 12-0 lead.
The Bees added one more run in the top of the fifth where Falls grounded out but managed to bring home Broderick to extend the lead to 13-0.
Foxpro did however manage to score a run in the game in the bottom of the same inning as Kearns fired a single that scored Shilling Jr.
Kearns got the start in game two and went two innings with a strikeout. Eichhorn went two-thirds innings with three walks before handing the ball over to Hayden Snook who pitched the next inning and a third with two walks. Jaxson Pupo pitched the final inning and had three walks.
Kenny Everly got the win on the mound for the Bees and went four innings with four strikeouts and two walks. Coda McClaskey finished the game and collected a strikeout.
The Blanchard Bees will travel to face the Spring Mills Braves on Tuesday while the Foxpro Predators will be traveling as well on Thursday as they head up over the mountain and do battle with the Lemont Ducks.
