MCALISTERVILLE – They battled to the end!

It was a tough night on the diamond for the Juniata County 13-year old Babe Ruth All-Stars as they met up with an inspired group from West End Sunday, falling 14-3 in five innings.

Two innings would make all the difference in the contest as West End opened the game posting a 6-run first and second to take an early 12-2 advantage going into the third.

West End showed its patience at the plate as hit pounded out 13 hits on the afternoon.

Juniata County finished with three hits on the night.

Picking up hits for Juniata were Daylyn Kennedy, Kelton Bonnell and Landon Foltz.

Foltz also finished with an RBI as did teammate Drew Geedey.

In the top of the first, Zane Rogers singled into center to lead off the inning. Rogers stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Parker Bennett followed with a walk.

Rogers scored on an infield hit by Lucas Naughton, making it a 1-0 advantage. Naughton moved up two bases on wild pitches.

Jeremiah Johnson was hit by a Juniata County offering and also advanced on a wild pitch.

Logan Kirby sent a blast into right centerfield resulting in a 2-RBI  single, upping the lead to 3-0 as Naughton and Bennett scored.

With Johnson on third and Kirby on first, Zach Myers brought in Johnson.

With one out, Seth McClintlock brought home the final two runs in the top of the inning, giving West End an early 6-0 lead.

But in the bottom of the inning, Juniata battled back to cut into the West End advantage by plating two runs.

Kennedy led off the Juniata part of the inning with a smash into left field for the double.

He moved up to third when teammate Bonnell bounced into a fielder’s’ choice to third.

Trent Price walked setting the stage for Foltz.

Foltz hit a grounder in between first and second scoring Kennedy. On the throw back, West End made a miscue allowing Price to also score, cutting it to a 6-2 West End lead.

“We had several opportunities to score some with runners on base but we just couldn’t get that key hit in a key situation. We had seven errors and that doesn’t help things either,” said Juniata County coach Aaron Geedey. “We just didn’t play our best ball today. We just got to get back to playing our ball, play good quality ball, error free ball and hitting the ball all over the place. They just got to do what they know how at this point. Forget about today and go into Tommorrow new and fresh.”

However, the West End offense was just getting warmed up as it again scored six more in the second, upping its lead to 12-2.

Scoring in the inning were Zack Myers, Neil, Bennett, Naughton, Johnson and Kirby.

Highlighting the inning for West End was a 2RBI by McClintock.

Trailing 12-2, Juniata notched another run in the bottom of the third.

Camden Barg led off the inning with a walk.

He scored on a high flying blast to deep right centerfield by Bonnell, cutting the score down to a single-digit deficit.

But there would be no comeback on this day as West End would score two more runs in the fourth and fifth, taking the 14-3 victory.

Juniata County is back in action Monday at 5:30 against Altoona back at. McAlisterville.
