Late Saturday score: MC Eagles tops Jacks Mtn.

GRANVILLE – In the finale of the first night of the MIfflin County Eagles’ 12 U tournament two local teams went head-to-head.

The Eagles met up with Jacks Mountain to end the first day’s festivities.

Jacks Mountain sparked a 3-0 advantage until late in the contest before MIfflin County battled its way back into the game and then later took the lead and the contest, 6-3.

In the first inning, Jacks Mtn. got off to a strong start posting two runs.

Carter Smith led off the game with a double to left field.

He later scored on a single by Jack McHail. McHail advance to second on the play via an Eagles’ miscue.

He later scored also on an error, giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage.

Kyle Shupp pitched a strong first two innings, holding the Eagles scoreless in the first and second innings.

Jacks Mtn. added a run in the second when Dodger Weaver singled and then stole second, setting the stage for McHail.

Smith joined Weaver on base for his second hit of the contest.

McHail again came through with an RBI single to extend their lead to three.

Both defenses took over from there as the score would remain the same until the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth the Eagles started to mount its comeback.

Cole Strawser led things off with a walk.

Thad Gerwick followed with a walk of his own.

Brayden Benfer singled in Strawser.

Cullen Busch also singled to load the bases for Evan Breon.

Breon hit a slow roller down third and everyone reached safely, cutting it to a 3-2 contest.

Rounding out the scoring in the inning for MIfflin County was Logan Blanchard who sent a sacrifice fly to deep in the outfield, sending home Benfer.

Going into the fifth, MIfflin County got its offense working again.

Jake Knable started off the inning with a walk then stole both second and third base.

Carson Cherry put the Eagles on top with a single to left field. Cherry moved up a base via a stolen base and put him into scoring position.

Carl Shirey’s single scored Cherry from second.

Gerwick blasted a double to right centerfield to give the Eagles a 6-3 advantage.

From there, MIfflin County’s defense took over and held Jack’s Mountain scoreless in their last at bats.
