Line Mountain tops East Juniata in girls soccer action

COCOLAMUS – The Tigers gave it everything they had, but ultimately fell short of their comeback attempt falling to Line Mountain 3-1 in a Tri-Valley League girls soccer matchup.

The Eagles went right at the East Juniata defense and quickly got on the scoreboard as Halley Shaffer stormed through the defensive line and fired the ball right into the back of the net to give Line Mountain a 1-0 lead.

However, the Tigers were not going down without a fight. Not long after the goal, Addison Feltman fought her way down the sideline and attempted to send over a cross pass, only for the ball to fly behind the net.

Tigers’ goalkeeper Gracie Hibbs was facing some heavy heat from Shaffer who again looked to put more points on the board. But this time, Hibbs would be ready. Shaffer had multiple opportunities to score, each time Hibbs came through in the clutch diving for the ball and took the ball away from Shaffer and prevented any goals from getting into the net.

Then with 16:57 remaining in the first half, Line Mountain would strike again as things got chaotic in the East Juniata net where the ball bounced off a defender and landed at the feet of Queenlyn Zartman who then knocked in the goal extending the Line Mountain lead to 2-0.

The Tigers came out very aggressive at the start of the second half and did not allow much room to breath for the Line Mountain defense and eventually the pressure was too much for the Eagles to contain as Cypress Feltman found an open Macy Buskey who fired a rocket past Line Mountain keeper Sage Hoover to cut the lead down to 2-1.

East Juniata continued to fight to the very end trying to even the score. But the Eagles rose to the occasion and found Shaffer who powered her way towards the net and blasted the ball to the back of the net to put the game on ice with a 3-1 win.
