MC track and field hangs tough against State College

STATE COLLEGE – The MIfflin County track team headed up the Seven Mountains to take their talents to State College to compete against a very talent and depth laden Little Lions squad.

Though they didn’t come out with the win, the Huskies fought tough and finished with a lot of place winners.

“State College is a really good team. We knew that coming into. But I thought our kids performed well. I thought they really stepped up to the challenge. Definite big time PRs today,” said MIfflin County co-coach Scot Sechler. “In the javelin Josiah Sechler PRed by 18 feet and finished in first place. Travis Renninger improved his throw by 20 feet and finished in second place. We are definitely going in the right direction.”

In the end,the boys fell 107.5-42.5 while the girls lost 92-57.

On the boys’ side, Brayden Harris won the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:30.02.

In the javelin, teammates Josiah Sechler took the top spot with a launch of 166’ 0” while Travis Renninger finished second with a throw of 132’ 1”.

Renninger also finished third in the discus with a toss of 119’ 4”.

MIfflin County got a sweep in the high jump when Caden Kauffman leap of 6’ 0” resulting in the first place finish.

Coming in second was Reagan Ettinger with a second place jump of 5’ 10” while Chris Gill finished third at 5’ 0”.

MIfflin County opened the meet with a second place finish in the 4×800 relay (8:41.98).

The also took second in the 4×100 relay (50.91).

Rounding out the relays was another second place finish in the 4×400 relay with a time of 3:56.67.

Dylan Kurtz finished second in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.90.

Landing third in the 400-meter was Dominic Reed with a finishing time of 58.11.

In the 110-meter hurdles,Tanner Ferguson finished third as he blazed his way to a time of 19.30.

Rounding out the place winners on the boys’  track side was Jayden Jackson. Jackson finished third in the 200-meter run with a mark of 24.98.

Dillon Wert also had a strong day finishing second in the Long Jump with a leap of 19’ 3”.

He finished third in the triple jump with a launch of 37’ 4.25”

Teammates Ty Small and Levi Haubrick finished second and third in the pole vault with top jumps of 9’6 and 8’6”.

3rd Long Jump Landon Leidy placed third in the long jump with a 19’ 0” jump.

Also finishing third was Alexander Price in the shot put with a throw of 35’ 9”.

“I was impressed with the way the girls came out and went after them. I think it was a little tighter than people expected. From everything I saw we were hanging right in there with them,” said MIfflin County co-coach Scott Gantz. “The goal for us day after day, meet after meet is to come out and give it your best and PR’ed at every meet. That’s the goal. Today was probably one of the best results we had this year.”

Ella Spriggle led all the girls competitors posting three first place finishes.

In her first event in 100-meter hurdles Spriggle blew away the competition with a time of 16.38.

In the 300 hurdles Ella Spriggle continued to dominate with a time of 48.68.

In her field event the high jump Spriggle topped the charts with a leap 4’ 8”.

That would lead to a sweep in the competition.

Second was Shaelyn Bagrosky with a 4’ 0”while Tai Ematat finished third with a 4’ 0”.

In the night’s closest race Kylee Cubbison finished first in the 800 with a finishing time of 2:24.41.

In the 1600-meter run Cubbison had an easier time winning with a time of 5:22.02.

Leading the girls’ field competitors was Taylor Ciccolini as she tops in the javelin (141’10”) and also finished second in the shot put(25’ 6”) and third in the discus (68’ 7”).

Mina Phillips placed third in the 100-meter hurdles finishing at 23.23. She placed second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 1:08.48.

In the 800-meter Lily Yoder finished third with a finish of 2:38.98.

Yoder also finished second in the 400-meter run with a 1:04.81 performance.

She finished second in the long jump Lily with a leap of 15’ 1”.

In the 3200-meter run Addie Parson finished second at 12.15.21.

She also posted a third in the 1600-meter with a time of 5:48.41.

In the triple jump Bryn Kanagy finished second with a launch of 30’ 8.50”.

Justice Sheaffer finished third in the javelin with a toss of 74’5”
