Mifflin County’ lights up the night in opener over Central Mountain

LEWISTOWN – Lighting up the night. Mifflin County and its air attack proved to be lethal early on as they posted 28-first half point en route to the 41-6 victory.

The win makes it two consecutive season debuts for the Huskies.

“I think we had a good game plan coming in. We got some film on them last week and we knew what they were doing. We have plans for any kind of front receivers,” said MIfflin County coach Shane Breon. “They’re (Central Mountain) a good team. I think the heat, it was fairly hot tonight, they had some big boys and I think they just got tired. We were a little lighter and a little more acclimated. Hats off to them. They’re a tough out and they have some nice kids there. I think they are going to do well the rest of the season.”

The air raid offense was alerting the rest of the future MIfflin County opponents that they are in for some difficulty to plan for the attack.

Runningback Deakon Schaeffer ran for 113 yards while his quarterback Landen Eichhorn finished with a 197-yard passing game.

One of the keys of the game is that the Huskies had no turnovers while Central Mountain fumbled the ball away on a punt return.

But it was a total team effort as the defense limited Central Mountain’s offense in the first and was able to keep things under control in the second as the Wildcats started to move up and down the field.

Starting the game, Mifflin County kicked off to start the contest but it’s defense held the Wildcat offense to a quick 4-and-out, giving its offense good field position after Central Mountain had a snapping miscue, and had to take the sack at the 27.

Mifflin County opened up pushing the ball right at the Central Mountain defense with runs to Deakon Schaeffer, putting it at third down and eight.

Mifflin County’s quarterback Landen Eichhorn, who was perfect on his first six passes found Landon Haigh for a hook up of 21.

From there, the offensive line and Schaeffer capped things off for a 2-yard TD run. Kicker Isaac Parks-Gill

Sent home the PAT, making it a 7-0 contest with 6:39 left in the opening period.

Central Mountain tried to get its offense going but the Huskies rush forced the passing game led by Thomas Sprague to hurry its looks downfield.

Defensively, the Huskies once again forced the Wildcats to punt position.

Central Mountain’s punter put the down at the MIfflin County 27.

“The Purple and Black attack” went to its first passing game as Eichhorn hit impressive throws to Aidan Reed and Schaeffer, pushing the ball down to the Wildcats’ side of the field.

Three plays later, Eichhorn found Haigh on a 27-yard TD throw, upping the lead to 14-0.

In the second, Central Mountain’s defense stood up early forcing MIfflin County to punt.

Central Mountain’s Rocco Serafini sacked Eichhorn on MIfflin County first possession of second quarter.

Serafini was of the Wildcats bright spots rushing for 76 yards on the ground.

Mifflin County ended the first half like they started, posting two touchdown’s both coming on the legs of Schaeffer, giving the Huskies a 28-0 advantage going into the intermission.

Schaeffer cranked out a 72-yard first half on the ground while Eichhorn posted a 6-11 131-yard first half.

Early in the second half, the Wildcats manage to work down the field hoping to break onto the scoreboard.

The Wildcats ran the ball all the way to the Huskies one before Sprague ran it in from one yard out.

But Dupree Reed instantly gave the Huskies back the momentum as he ran the ball 60-yards on the kick off, putting the ball at the Wildcats 35.

One play later, Schaeffer muscled his way in from 36 out to up the lead to 34-6.

But the Wildcats refused to give up as it took its second possession and marched it in Huskies territory.

Facing a 4th and 3 at the MIfflin County 40, Central Mountain picked up a first, keeping the drive alive at the 36 of MIfflin County.

But the Huskies hung tough and got a little more help from its offense.

Mifflin County finished its scoring on timing route from Eichhorn to Aidan Reed at the back of the end zone to end the scoring as a 41-6 contest.

Mifflin County travels to Shikellamy next week.
