Penns Valley celebrates 12-3 season

The Penns Valley Rams made it 10 in a row Thursday night with a win over Clearfield enroute to their best finish in 11 years.

“This team has worked extremely hard and I’m so proud of them,” said Rams coach Ken Gore. “Our senior leadership (Zach Heckman, Caleb Narber, Michael Johnson, Connor Martz, Dristen Wolfe) has brought us to this point and I can’t wait to see them lead us into the playoffs next week! They have forged an epic season with diligence and discipline and they deserve this chance to play at least one more time.”

Cole Felker (1 goal), and Michael Johnson (2 goals, 1 assist) led the attack for the Rams – but the midfield and defensive back played roles just as critical by shutting down the Clearfield runs, possessing the ball in the middle, and setting up the attack time and time again.

Gore said that his team continues to make balanced scoring the trademark of their attack (except for Michael “Dennis” Johnson – who tips the scales in our scoring favor every night). “We always have 5 or 6 guys on the pitch – really strong competitors like Connor [Martz], Zack [Heckman], Caleb [Narber], and Aidan [Culver] – that can finish really well at any moment.”

The Rams will head into District 6 playoffs next week and hope to keep the momentum from their furious run in the month of October. But wherever they land and whatever the outcome, the 2020 soccer season has been enormously successful and has already been written in Penns Valley athletic history.
