Penns Valley girls survive for 1-0 victory over BEA

Mountain League has major league tussle.

In the battle of the Mountain League’s top Penns Valley crew and a fiesty group from Bald Eagle Area met up and played the entire 80 minutes with just one goal scored.

In the end, the Lady Rams held on to the 1-0 contest.

“We played a good game. It was very even, like it always is when we play each other. We had our chances and didn’t capitalize on them,” said Bald Eagle coach Jared Moore. “That was the difference. Hats off to Penns Valley. They played a great game.”

The lone goal on the night came from Penns Valley’s Katie Martell at 56:20.

This was yet another tough, even game against a strong Bald Eagle Area team.  It took a tremendous effort by our team and a phenomenal shot to get the result tonight.  Katie Martell hit a laser from at least 35 yards out and put it straight to the top corner of the net.  It was a strike that professional players would be ecstatic to hit and it proved to be a very worthy game winner,” said Penns Valley coach Andrew Beverly. “Our team effort on defense was the other standout tonight.  The girls did a great job in organizing and marking against a strong BEA attack.  While we defended well all night as a team, Leah Beben was the highlight.  We have continually asked Leah to do some of the toughest tasks for any defender in our league and she has risen to the occasion time and time again.  She’s grown so much as a player and as a leader for our group this year and there is no way we keep a clean sheet tonight without her.  Our defense as a whole made things as hard as they could for BEA and gave away very few clean shots.  When they did, Kylie Auman stepped up with an incredible save.  This was a fantastic team performance and we’re so proud of the effort the girls put forth tonight.”

Bald Eagle had the advantage in corner opportunities by a 4-2 margin while both shot nine times each.

Bald Eagle goalie Angelina Grieb snagged eight saves while Kylie Auman saved nine in the process.

Bald Eagle’s record is now 7-4-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the Mountain League.

Next  up for the Lady Eagles is a game at Central on Thursday.

Penns Valley’s record is now 10-2 and 8-2 in the Mt League.  Our next game is Thursday at Philipsburg-Osceola.

In JV action, Bald Eagle scored a lone goal to top the Rams 1-0.

The Bald Eagle goal came from Sara Thompson off an assist from Daina Julian.

BEA goalie Mackenzie Vozniak had five saves en route to the shut out.

The Lady Eagles JV Record is 7-0-2.
