Plumbs take game one against Knights in Championship series

BELLEFONTE – Round one goes to Plumb’s.

The Bellefonte Little League held its Major Championship series Tuesday as Plumbs went up against the  Knights.

Plumbs broke out to an early lead and it’s defense had it A-game going as it defeated the Knights 7-2.

Offensively, Plumbs were led by Felix Oquendo who went 2-for-3 with 2RBIs and a run and Oliver Thornburg with a 2-for-3 night as well.

Others picking up hits for for Plumbs were Logan Gibson, Austin Houser and Carson Henry.

The Knights was led by leadoff hitter Cameron Lucas who went a perfect 3-for-3 evening.

Also picking up hits were Maddison Miller, Lincoln Dubin and Amryn Carson. Carson roped an RBI triple in his line hit of the night.

Coming in as the visitors, Plumbs wasted little time getting runs on the board, plating three in their first at bats.

Thornburg got the game started with a walk. He quickly reached third on a double by Carson Henry that brought him to the hot corner.

Oquendo brought both of them in with a single, making it 2-0.

He later stole home to give his team a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the inning.

Lucas led his half of the first with a single back up the middle.

However, the Plumbs defense refused to allow another hit, going into the second still holding their 3-0 advantage.

Both defenses would blank the other in the second.

The Knights cut into the lead in the bottom of the third as the manufactured a run.

With one out, Joey Swentosky scores from second when Carson blasted a shot down into right field, landing him on third with a stand up RBI triple.

But he would be left stranded as Plumbs’ defense held once again.

In the top of the fourth, Plumbs got that run back as Will Hoover scored.

But the Knights defense also had its shining moments as they got out of the inning throwing Thornburg out at home on a delay steal attempt.

Meanwhile when the Knights got up in the bottom of the inning, they were stranded without any runs.

The offense scored two runs in the fifth and one in the fourth to put their lead up to a 7-1 advantage going into the final stanza.

Despite trailing by six, the Knights refused to give up as they were able to pick up another run but that’s all they were able to manufacture as Plumbs held for the 7-2 victory.

Both teams will be back in action Wednesday at 6pm.
