PV girls XC team clinched Mountain League title

Tonight the Penns Valley Cross Country teams traveled to Clearfield for their final Mt League meet of the regular season.

The girls notched wins against both Clearfield (25-30) and Tyrone (26-29) to end the regular season with a 6-0 record and securing their 5th consecutive Mt League team title.

Anna Stitzer was first with a new course record for Clearfield of 18:56.

Alexis Durn was third (23:02), Ayva Fetterolf was 8th (25:22), Ann-Marie McMurtrie was 9th (25:43), and Annie Racette was 16th (33:01).

These two wins bring the girls record to 7-1.

“The girls first goal of the season was to repeat as Mt League Champions and today they achieved that goal.  Anna once again ran a remarkable race and is now the 5th fastest girl in PV history.  Ayva and Annie also ran personal bests,” said Penns Valley coach Lynda Federinko.

The boys narrowly lost to Clearfield (30-26) and also lost to Tyrone (35-22).  This brings their season record to 1-6.

McClain Reamer won the race in 18:40, Vince Smith was 8th (21:26),

Dilon Reilly was 9th (22:00) and

Matthew Wheeland was 15th (25:58).

“McClain was determined to win his first race and outraced the competition by nearly a full minute.  Another bright point of the day was Dilon improving his best time by 1.5 minutes.  Vince continues to run steadily and Matthew is learning with each race,” said Federinko.
