Rogers tosses one-hitter; Bellefonte blanks Penns Valley in softball action

SPRING MILLS – Bellefonte hurler Lexi Rogers opened the week in grand fashion Monday as she tossed a 1-hitter en route to an. 11-0 victory over Penns Valley.

Penns Valley’s Jordan Anderson broke up the Bellefonte no-no with a blooper into right field.

But Rogers was spot on during the rest of the contest, striking out the Lady Rams 11 times.

Despite the loss, Penns Valley pitcher Kendra Bumgardner finished with eight strike outs.

Offensively, the Red Raiders exploded onto the scene, plating five runs in the first inning.

Madison Melius got the game started with a walk and was later accompanied by Rogers.

Rogers was replaced by Carly Clarkson on the base paths.

With two out, Sara DeHaas sent a deep shot that cleared the centerfield fence for the 3-run home run.

What looked to be a strike to end the inning, MacKenna Port hustled out the strike three call as it scored away from the Lady Rams’ catcher to keep the inning alive.

She would later score on a triple down the right field line by teammate Tori Riechert. She finished off the scoring in the inning as she plated home on a wild pitch.

The Lady Raiders came back battling again in the second inning, upping its lead to eight as they increased their lead to 8-0.

Melius started things off for the second inning in-a-row when she blasted a double into right centerfield.

Maddie Tice reached first as she hit a soft grounder to third that she managed to beat out, putting runners on the corners.

Rogers walked to load the bases and set the stage for Hannah Lauck. She did not disappoint as she smashed a steamer down the right field line, scoring two on the play.

Port singled in Rogers to end the second inning score as 8-0.

The Red Raiders were back on the scoreboard as Lily Gardner scored on a Tice single, upping it to 9-0.

Bellefonte put the game on ice in the top of the fifth adding two runs, making it an 11-0 lead, en route to the victory.
