Taylor Brown’s Big Day Propels Bellefonte Lady Raiders Past Huntingdon Bearcats

Taylor Brown collected four hits in four at bats, as Bellefonte defeated Huntingdon 16-0 on Monday. Brown hit a solo home run to left field in the sixth inning, singled in the first inning, singled in the seventh inning, and singled in the fourth inning.

The Lady Raiders got on the board in the top of the first inning after Brown singled, Sienna Barnhart singled, and the Bearcats committed an error, each scoring one run.

Bellefonte added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when Grace Novitsky singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.

The Lady Raiders added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning on two hits. Brown hit a solo home run to left field, and Alaina Smith drew a walk, scoring one run.

Bellefonte  scored eight runs on six hits in the top of the seventh inning. Brown singled, scoring one run, Jailynn Sheffield induced Jaylee Lose to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, Madison Ripka singled, scoring two runs, Mackenzie Ellenberger singled, scoring one run, Maria Cotter doubled, scoring two runs, and Novitsky doubled, scoring one run.

Carley Clarkson earned the win for the Lady Raiders. The righty surrendered five hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one. Kennedy Williams took the loss for Huntingdon. They went three and one-third innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out three and walking two. Julia Foster opened the game for the Lady Bearcats. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and six runs (three earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out one and walking four.

Bellefonte piled up 13 hits in the game. Novitsky and Brown each collected four hits for the Lady Raiders. Bellefonte had patience at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Sadie Ripka, Ripka, and Barnhart led the team with two walks each. The Lady Raiders didn’t commit a single error in the field. Lose had the most chances in the field with nine.

Kyle led Huntingdon with two hits in three at bats.

Next up for Bellefonte is a game against Clearfield on Thursday.
