23 Walks In Two Games Sends Eagles Sauntering Past Drew and into First Place in the Landmark Conference

MADISON, N.J.- The Juniata baseball team dominated the final two games at Drew, 12-1 and 13-3, behind 23 walks across both games to move into first place in the Landmark Conference Monday afternoon at Doc Young Field.

 

Isaac Maclay (Belleville, Pa. / Mifflin County High School) scored in the first, stealing third as Dakotah Snyder (Lewisburg, Pa. / Lewisburg) drew a walk, and Maclay went home on a throwing error by the catcher.

 

In the second, Evan Mock (Mifflin County, Pa / McVeytown) lined a double to left-center to score Joey Allegrini (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey). Ryan McClain (Hughesville, Pa. / Hughesville) sent him home with a single through the left side to make it 3-0.

 

In the fourth, McClain drove in two more runs with another single through the left side, Maclay knocked in another with an RBI-single to left, and Snyder’s RBI-single made it 7-0. The Rangers scored got one back with an RBI single of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

 

The Eagles tacked on five more runs in the ninth to cement the win.

 

Julius Thomas (Johnstown, Pa. / Ferndale Area High School) got the win for the Eagles, tossing six innings while allowing six hits, one run, one walk, and striking out five.

 

The Rangers struck first in game two, scoring on an RBI single up the middle.

 

The Eagles responded with an enormous second inning, scoring eight runs on four hits which included three runs scoring via walks with the bases loaded.

 

The onslaught continued in the fourth, as JC struck for five more runs on three hits to make it 13-1. The Rangers scored two in the bottom of the fifth, on an RBI-double to right-center and an RBI- single up the middle, to make it 13-3.

 

Jack Dovidio (Glenmore, Pa. / Downingtown West) got the win for the Eagles. He went 5.0 innings, allowed three runs, with two of them earned to go with a walk and seven strikeouts.

 

The Eagles will travel to Scranton, Saturday with the first pitch at 12:30.
