All for one-Despite loss Bellefonte GLAX is learning and improving

BELLEFONTE – it’s not always about how you start but how you finish.
It’s all about adjustments.
For the 2nd year Bellefonte girls lacrosse team it’s about correcting their mistakes on the fly, especially against a very seasoned and experienced team like Danville.
In the end, Danville won 19-1.
But the game within the game is what really mattered.
After a quick scoring spurt at the beginning by the Danville offense, the Red Raiders made simple adjustments to its defense that would extend the time between goals and also spark more offensive drives than what it produced in the first 15-minutes.
As each player qroup went on a shift change, the young group asked and responded to the coaches corrections, slowing the Danville scoring attempts.
Even during the time out sessions, both coaches were positioning their players and the kids responded and started to improve.
When the buzzer for the half, sounded Danville had the 14-0 lead.
Bellefonte came out of the break with Brynn Miller going through the Danville defense and posted her teams first shot on goal.
After a 3-goal run by Danville, Bellefonte’s Naomi Knapp made yet another run at the Danville back-third.
However, they still could not hit it through.
The hard work paid off later as Natalie Book gave it to Sarah Tobin to score the first goal.
And score she did.
The score seem to breathe more life into the Red Raiders as they took the possession once again.
Maddie Dreese had a breakaway that went to the heart of the Danville middle but was stolen as she lined up her sights for a shot on goal.
Forcing a penalty shot Bellefonte got a shot off but it was saved by Danville.
Bellefonte got numerous chances on offense in the second half.
When the final buzzer sounded, the Red Raiders defense stiffened in the second half, only allowing five goals while its offense tallied one.
Despite the loss, the team was in positive spirits as they left the field, knowing that they took another step in the maturation process that only comes by playing the game they love, lacrosse.
