BEA storms back late for win over Penns Valley

The Bald Eagle softball team was victorious Monday night in a battle against Mountain League foe, Penns Valley.

In the end, the Eagles outlasted the Rams 8-5.

The winning pitcher Maddie Peters picked up the victory in relief of Marina Shawley

“We wanted to get 4 strong innings from Marina and that’s what we got. Not only are we getting strong pitching from these two offensively they both are hitting the ball very well,” said Bald Eagle coach Don Lucas. “Defensively we again were steady making just a few mistakes that are correctable. Very pleased with our young players.”

The Eagles came back from behind and tied the game before taking the lead. Kayleigh Kinley started are comeback with a lead off HR in the top of the 5th. 

Bald Eagle had strong at bats from Maddie Perry(2 doubles, 1 single), Mara Hockenberry(2 singles) highlighted by a perfectly placed bunt. Hockenberry also stole 3rd twice. “We as a team ran the bases aggressively and attacked the ball on offense,” said Lucas. 

Penns Valley’s Allison O’Brien posted a grand slam for the Rams. 

Shawley went 3 1/3 innings with – for strike outs, five runs, three hits and one walk. 

Peters went 3 2/3 innings with five strike outs, 0 runs, 0 walks and one hit. 

Lydia Collison was the losing pitcher giving up eight runs on eight hits, a walk and two hit by pitches.
