Bellefonte heads to the next level, tops Indiana

The Bellefonte baseball team stole the lead late in the game in an 11-5 victory over Indiana Varsity Indians on Thursday. The game was tied at five with the Red Raiders batting in the top of the fifth when Dominic Capperella doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Bellefonte earned the victory despite allowing Indiana to score three runs in the third inning. The Indians’s big inning was driven by triples by Gavin Homer and Ben Ryan and a single by Garrison Dougherty.

Bellefonte opened up scoring in the first inning. Braedyn Kormanic drove in two when Kormanic doubled.

The Red Raiders knotted the game up at five in the top of the fourth inning, when Trevor Johnson singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Capperella got the win for Bellefonte. The lefthander lasted five and a third innings, allowing ten hits and five runs while striking out seven. Peyton Vancas threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Ryan Okopal took the loss for Indiana. The pitcher lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and six runs while striking out two.

Dougherty started the game for Indiana. The hurler lasted two-thirds of an inning, allowing one hit and three runs

Bellefonte totaled nine hits in the game. Johnson and Levi Purnell each had multiple hits for the Red Raiders. Purnell and Johnson each collected two hits to lead Bellefonte. Bellefonte was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Kormanic made the most plays with eight.

Indiana tallied ten hits on the day. Dougherty, Nick Love, and Homer each racked up multiple hits for Indiana Varsity Indians. Dougherty led the Indians with three hits in three at bats.
