Big Valley outlasts Bald Eagle Area in 10U All-Star action

MILESBURG – The week started with a bang! when Bald Eagle Area 10U All-Stars met up against Big Valley at Bald Eagle’s home field.

Nash Butterworth took to the mound against Big Valley while the Big Valley squad sent Koby Scheffel.

After a very close battle, the Big Valley squad took home the win after a rain shortened contest, 6-4.

In the top of the first, Big Valley was able to get a double by Carter Long but that was it as Butterworth and company shut things down.

The Eagles made a little noise in the bottom of the inning.

With two out, Jase Hall hit a grounder between first and second for the single.

Tanner Herrold followed with a walk as did teammate Tucker Deibler, loading the bases.

Memphis Moore blasted a 3RBI double, upping the score to a 3-0 contest.

Grant Boone kept the inning going with a walk.

But Scheffel closed the door on the inning, notching his second strike out.

Brooks Druckenmiller took advantage of an Eagles’ miscue to start the second.

A second miscue in the inning allowed Druckenmiller to move to third and Duke Peachey to move up to second, with one out.

Maddox Lawson put his team on the board smoking a shot into right field, allowing both Druckenmiller and Peachey to score.

Titan Cherry singled. Both moved up a base, putting runners on second and third with two out.

Bald Eagle held off Big Valley and finished things off in the inning.

Bald Eagle went right back to work in the bottom.

With one out, Kellen Switzer hustled out an infield hit. He moved into scoring position with a stolen base.

Ryder Jordan walked.

Big Valley’s right fielder made a nice shoe string grab.

Hall was hit by a pitch, loading the bases once again.

Big Valley ended the threat as they forced a fly ball to end the inning.

Centerfielder Tucker Deibler kept Big Valley off the board as he threw out Scheffel at the plate who was hustling from second.

But on the play, Toddes was able to make it to third.

An infield hit by Carter Long, plated Toddes, knoting the game at three.

A single by Micah Matthews put runners on second and third with two out.

Blake Cunningham singled back the middle, giving the visitors the first lead of the game.

Duke Peachey singled in Matthews, upping the Big Valley lead to 5-3.

Defensively, Big Valley’s defense held things in check, sending Bald Eagle down 1-2-3.

Lawson got the fourth started well for Big Valley, picking up his second hit of the game.

Titan Cherry followed up with a walk. Both moved up a base on a stolen base.

Scheffel brought in Lawson on a single back the middle.

Going into the bottom of the fourth, Bald Eagle was looking to come back from a 6-3 deficit.

With two outs, Switzer kept the inning alive with a single.

Ryder Jordan followed with a single into centerfield.

Butterworth walked to load the bases.

Hall took a pitch for the team, picking up an RBI after getting hit by a pitch, cutting it to 6-4.

But the defense held, keeping the score at 6-4 going into the fifth.

Then Mother Nature imposed her wrath as Bald Eagle Area had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the inning.

The rains came and so did the thunder and lightning, ending the contest with Big Valley coming out the victors in the nail biter.
