Condrack tosses no-hitter while MC offense explodes for 10-0 win

By Kenny Varner

STATE COLLEGE – Devaine Condrack was just devine on the mound for the Mifflin County softball team Tuesday against Mid-Penn rival State College.

Condrack had her pitches working all afternoon as she tossed a no-hitter en route to the Lady Huskies 10-0 shut out of the Little Lions. She collected seven strike outs while walking just one.

She had help from third baseman MacKenzie Burdge as she caught two difficult plays at the hot corner to preserve the no-no.

The MIfflin County hurler was pleased with how she felt before the game and how things finished for her.

“I felt very confident going into the game,” said Condrack. “I felt pretty good when it happened.”

Offensively, Burdge added the fire power as well as she blasted her first career home run.

Others finishing strong offensively were Maddie Myers (2-for-3, 3runs, 2RBIs), Josie Kibe (2-for-3 2runs), Burdge (2-for-3 4RBIs), run, Jaylyn Moore (2-for-3 run) and Condrack (3-for-3).

In the first, MIfflin County rallied early scoring one but leaving the bases loaded.

Myers started the game with a walk and then moved up on a miscue by State College that allowed her to move up an batter Gianna Hoppel to reach.

Burdge reached on a walk, filling the bases with Huskies.

With the bases loaded, State College tried to catch Myers leaning off third but on the throw the ball went into left field, allowing Myers to score, making it a 1-0 lead.

Condrack sent down the side in order, giving the momentum back to the MIfflin County bats.

“From the first pitch she (Condrack) was dialed in. She was hitting her spots,” said MIfflin County manager Craig Weston. “All her pitches were moving. That’s quite a pitching performance.”

Going into the second, MIfflin County started to deliver the damage to the scoreboard.

Alaina Sharp opened things with a walk.

Caitlyn Kick followed with a single to right centerfield.

Myers blasted a triple to the gap in right center, allowing both Kick and Sharp to score.

With one out, Kibe was very patient at the plate and took the walk.

The scene was all set for Burdge.

Burdge took her pitch deep over the fence in right, upping the score to 6-0.

Moore kept the inning going with a blooping single in left field.

Alexis O’Brien was hit by a pitch.

Condrack notched an RBI single to give her team a 7-0 advantage after two innings.

State College again went down 1-2-3.

On the third out, Burdge dove after a blooping slap by pitchers mound, sparing the no-hit effort early on.

Myers and Kibe would score again in the third. Again it would be Burdge that would bring them home, putting the lead to a nine run advantage.

In the third, Condrack struck out 2-of-3, sending it to the fourth.

Both teams held in the fifth, keeping things at 9-0.

Myers put the lead to 10 runs in the sixth, and the Huskies defense would hold to take home the victory.

“That’s what we need. From number one to up and down the line up to the subs getting hits. That’s what it’s all about,” said Weston. “And to play as a team and those girls did that tonight.”
