Port Royal Speedway – PORT ROYAL, Penn (July 16, 2023)- Logan Wagner rebounded from a tough string of bad luck to score his first win of the season in Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprint Car competition Saturday night.

The win, worth $5000, was Wagner’s 17th of his career at the Juniata County oval and moved him into a tie for 17th all-time on the win list at the Speedway with Elmer Ruby, Fred Rahmer and Randy Wolfe.

Garrett Bard and Steve Buckwalter lined up on the front row for the 25-lap event and it was Buckwalter getting the early jump to lead lap one. Wagner, who started fifth on the grid, made a two for one move to grab the final podium position on lap four.

Already a three-time winner in 2023, ninth-place starter Devon Borden moved to sixth on lap five and two laps later he cracked the top five.

Wagner continued his march forward as he grabbed second on lap nine, while Borden moved into the final podium position at the 15-to-go mark.

Mike Walter II started 13thin the field and was the car on the move as used the high line to take the eighth position on lap 11. Meanwhile up front, Buckwalter, Wagner and Borden were engaged in a three-car battle for the top spot amidst heavy lapped traffic.

It only took one lap for Wagner to stake his claim as the top man on the track as he ducked under Buckwalter in turn’s three and four to lead with 13 to go. Borden followed suit to claim the runner-up spot.

Walter continued putting on a show back in the field as he moved into seventh one lap later. Two laps later, with 10 laps to go, Wagner held a .844 advantage over Borden. Walter moved into sixth on the following lap.

The event’s only caution came two laps later when Trenton Sheaffer spun out at the end of the backstretch.

Borden tried a move to the bottom on the restart, but Wagner was too good off the top of the track. Walter would advance to fourth with one lap remaining, but nobody had anything for the leader as Wagner cruised home to victory by a margin of 2.284 seconds.

Borden, Jeff Halligan, Walter, and Gerard McIntyre Jr rounded out the top five. Lucas Wolfe, Blane Heimbach, Buckwalter, Ryan Smith and Bard completed the top ten. Walter was the $500 Valley Supply Hard Charger for the event, while Buckwalter earned the $1000 J&S Classics Warrior Award via random draw.

Trent Brenneman held off a hard charging Shawn Shoemaker to pick up his fifth career victory in the Dack’s Trucking LLC Limited Late Model division. The win was Brenneman’s first of the season and earned him $1500.

Danny Atherton and Shoemaker lined up on the front row for the feature, but it was Brenneman jumping out front early in the race. After seven laps, Brenneman held a 1.763 second advantage over Shoemaker, but a caution for a slowing Spike Moore wiped out the lead. Moore was running fourth at the time.

Brenneman controlled the restart, but Shoemaker stayed close to his tail. 13th starter Devin Hart was the man on the move as he cracked the top five with seven laps remaining. One lap later he moved into fourth and with five laps remaining he grabbed the final podium position.

While he tried to track down the leaders, neither him nor Shoemaker had anything for Brenneman as the local driver went on to claim the checkered flag.

Kenny Yoder and Jared Fulkroad completed the top five, while Andrew Yoder, Taylor Farlling, Atherton, Daulton Bigler and Ryan Zook completed the top ten.

Kenny Heffner won a barnburner of a Penns Valley Meat Market PA Sprint Series 305 Sprint Car feature event with a white flag lap pass of Zach Rhodes Saturday night.

The win was the third of Heffner’s career at the Juniata County oval. Zach Rhodes wrestled away the lead in a three-car battle between Heffner himself and Roger Irvine with nine laps to go and looked to be on his way to victory.

However, with Rhodes struggling slightly in lapped traffic, he opened the door for Heffner to re-take the lead on the white flag lap. Heffner got around Rhodes coming to the flag and held on for the victory.

Irvine, Owen Dimm and Seth Schnoke rounded out the top five. Austin Reed, Doug Dodson, Ken Duke, Logan Spahr and Kruz Kepner completed the top ten.
