MC XC girls loses close meet to Altoona

Down to the wire.

The Mifflin County girls battled Altoona at home Wednesday on the Cross Country course.

In the end, the Mountain Lions would barely get past the Huskies 24-31.

“Tonight was meet the XC Huskies night and senior recognition, a great way to kick off the evening before facing off against Altoona,” said Mifflin County coach Neil Breneman. “Three of the six varsity girls that ran this evening had season best times, Kylee, Addie, and Justice.

Kylee Cubbison cruised to a first place finish  with a time of 19:28.

“She was feeling strong and ready both physically and mentally for a big race this Saturday in Gettysburg,” said Breneman.

Addie Parsons finished in third place with a mark of 20:26.

“Addie proved how strong she is and learned what she is capable of knocking an entire minute off her season best. She is locking in on making another run for states.

Rounding out the top Husky runners

was Justice Sheaffer who finished eighth with a time of 23:10.

“Justice also learned how much more she is capable of, putting in a strong run that was also a minute off her season best time. Tonight was all about gaining confidence in what they are capable of doing,” said Breneman. “The team score may not show a win but the confidence they gained as we close in on championship season was invaluable and a significant win for several of the athletes.”

This Saturday, October 9, they will travel to compete in the Gettysburg Invitational.
