Penns Valley and BEA girls go to 2OT before ending in tie

It was a battle from beginning to end as two Mountain League Girls soccer team went head-to-head Monday night that would finish the way it started, in a tie.

Undefeated Bald Eagle battled a scrappy Penns Valley team primed and ready for an upset.

However, after two overtime periods, the two would walk away with a tie on their season records.

Bald Eagle led in shots on goal by a 15- 9 margin.

In Keeper Saves, Bald Eagles’ Rachel Veneziano tallied eight while

PV Kylie Auman had 15.

Penns Valley’s  Katie Martell off an assist by Hannah Montminy, put the Rams up 1-0 early in the second at 54:42.

“This was a tough, scrappy game from two good teams.  It’s always a battle when we play BEA and the wind played a big factor.  Whoever had the wind seemed to have the control of the game each half and in the overtimes,” said Penns Valley Coach Andrew Beverly. “While we weren’t quite at our best, largely due to the tenacity of BEA, we were still able to create some good chances and scored a great goal off a short corner kick.  Hannah Montminy and Katie Martell worked it so well and so quickly, no one (coaches included) caught on until the ball was in the back of the net.  While we can be a little disappointed in giving up an own goal, it wasn’t from lack of effort from our defensive group today.  Leah Beben was especially good as our holding midfielder.  We’re starting to get things going as we have now hit the halfway point in our season and hopefully we can continue on the ascendancy.

BEA tied things on a Penns Valley Own goal at 69:55.

“The girls played with a lot of heart tonight. The defense was outstanding. Just outstanding. Allie Cowan had a phenomenal performance. We were on our heels at first but definitely got a good groove after that,” said Bald Eagle coach Jared Moore. “We just couldnt find the back of the net. Hats off to Penns Valley. They played us hard. Some of the best games are when we play each other.”

In the JV contest, Bald Eagle won 2-1.

Penns Valley’s record is now 4-5-1 and our next game is on 9/25vs Central Martinsburg while Bald Eagle is now 9-0-1.
