Penns Valley boys soccer doubles up Meadowbrook

Double the fun!

On Saturday, the Penns Valley boys’ soccer team had its A-game going from beginning to end, doubling up Meadowbrook Christian 6-3.

“Saturday AM games are always tough and my guys were still a little worn out and sore from our 2 OT game at Bellefonte Thursday night. We started off a little sluggish but picked some momentum once we opened the scoring at 8 minutes with a good strike from Aidan Culver,” said Penns Valley coach Ken Gore. “From there we kept the pressure on and finished some really nice shots with 2 great half-volleys from Aidan Culver and Zach Heckman and a beautiful upper corner shot from Michael Johnson – who also contributed an impressive four assists. In the 2nd half Meadowbrook moved more defenders back to stop our attack and filled in a lot of space, so we had to play more of a control game to work the ball through – which we did a number of times and came very close to scoring 3 or 4 more goals – but just couldn’t finish them. We added one more in the 2nd half and made some mistakes on defense – but controlled most of the half and were never in any real danger of letting the game get close.”

Penns Valley  led off the scoring on an Aidan Culver  goal with the assist coming from Michael Johnson at 8:00.

Culver  scored again with his second goal from another assist from Johnson at 16:00.

Zach Heckman  made it 3-0 thanks to an assist by Caleb Narber at 21:36.

Meadowbrook finally got on the score board when Dillon Stokes hit an unassisted goal at 22:47.

Johnson put his name in the scoring department off an assist by Kyle Long at 26:20.

Zach Heckman followed with an assist from  Johnson at 29:54.

Heckman capped off their scoring with an assist from Johnson at 58:50.

Dillon Stokes  notched two consecutive goals late in the game with goals at 77:30 and 74:50, respectively.

The Rams dominated in shots on goal by a 26-9 margin and dominated the corner kicks by a 9-2 mark.

Meadowbrook tallied 13 saves on the day while Penns Valley’s Dristen Wolfe had five.

Penns Valley improves to 2-1 on the season.
