State College softball improves to 6-0, tops CD

It came down to the wire on Tuesday, as the State College Lady Lions softball team grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 2-1, over Central Dauphin . The game was tied at one in the bottom of the seventh when Sarah Mellott singled, scoring one run.

Both teams were strong in the circle. State College pitchers struck out eight, while Central Dauphin sat down 12.

The Lady Rams opened the scoring in the second after scoring one run.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the  Lady Lions went back into the lead after Gaby McTavish doubled, and Mellott singled, each scoring one run.

Addison Harpster earned the win for State College. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking four. The right-handed pitcher went six and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs on five hits, striking out 12 and walking two.

Mellott and McTavish each drove in one run for State College. McTavish led the Lady Lions with two hits in three at bats.

Next up for State College is a game at Altoona on Thursday.
