19 State College athletes sign to extend playing career on National Signing Day

STATE COLLEGE – Numerous college talents were honored Wednesday at the State College high school as the Little Lions held their College signing day.

The room was filled with parents and teachers as well as athletes as the State College drum line opened the festivities.

It was a who’s who of sports signings as the school honored players from the basketball hardwood, volleyball, lacrosse, football, soccer, field hockey, swimming, baseball and softball teams.

All I all, o19 were honored on this day.

Assistant director of Athletics Loren Crispell had a personal message to his athletes as the program got underway.

“You’ve been high achievers. Not only for your teams but in the classroom and in the community,” said Crispell. “Mr. Weakland and I have been in our positions here for about two and a half years. So this is really the first senior class that we’ve had some time to get to know. So that makes a special group for us. It’s full of high character and great character and great commitment to its craft. You’ve represented your school and district so very well.”

Honored on the day was Maya Bokunewicz who will take her talents to Rice University to play basketball.

Isabelle Leazier will take the basketball court as a member of the College of New Jersey.

Savannah Schoonmaker will move on to play Girls Soccer at the University of New Hampshire.

Volleyball phenom Lauren Arnold will attend Franklin and Marshall in the fall.

Teammate a standout Kate Lachendro sends her talents to Slippery Rock University.

Trevor Beck, who was a member of the most successful class in Little Lions Football history, will play at Grove City College.

Teammate Kevin Kurzinger will head to Duquesne University to play football as well.

Nate Lusk will be serving his country as well as play football as he will play for Army West Point.

Addison Darcy also will move on to play football as he attends the University of New Hampshire.

Bryn Schoonover will stay in state to hit the gridiron for Gettysburg College.

Evan Courts will move onto to play Lacrosse at Gwynedd Mercy.

Teammate Aidan McCann will take his talents to Hood College.

Ryan Cymbor will join the Boys Volleyball team at Queens University of Charlotte.

Libby Fortin, a member of the District 6 winning field hockey team will attend Hartwick College.

Baseball commit Jake Hillard signed to play at Penn State Altoona.

Wrestler Clayton Leidy will hit the mats at Alvernia University.

McKenzie Shannon will move on to extend her softball career to Messiah College.

Rounding out the student athletes that will be moving onto the next level is swimmer Abbey Whipple  as she joins the Swimming and Diving team at Eastern Michigan University.
