Bald Eagle Area girls soccer win via penalty kick to top Hilltoppers

Clutch under pressure!!

The Bald Eagle Area girls soccer team jumped out of the regular season and into the post season in quite the dramatic way, posting a 1-0 victory over Westmont Hilltop Tuesday.

After a scoreless first half, the two teams battled to try to get the possible game winner.

With the clock reaching the 62-minute mark. The Hilltoppers got called for a penalty in their own goal area, setting things up for a penalty kick.

Coach Jared Moore turned to Falen McHenry to take the shot and she did not disappoint posting the winning goal at 62:03.

“What a great game. Hats of to Westmont. They are a great team and didn’t give us many opportunities tonight. It was tough conditions to play soccer in tonight with the rain and cold but the girls were resilient,” said Moore. “They came out in the second half and really played possession ball and they kept going at Westmont until they got a break and Fal made it count. All 11 on the field won this game. It takes a total team effort. Hats off to the defense pitching a shutout. They were stingy and limited the Westmont attack all game and just played gritty. They stayed composed under pressure. Great work all around!”

Westmont led in shots on target by a 6-5 margin while Bald Eagle led in corner opportunities, 6-3.

Bald Eagle goalie Angie Grieb collected six saves while the Hilltoppers’ Sabrina Zimmerman had four.

With the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 10-7-1.
